His experience includes, corrosion survey on pipelines, corrosion monitoring in a desalination plant, pre-passivation treatment on a nuclear power station condenser, control of a gas extraction plant & desalination plant & Corrosion monitoring and durability of reinforced concrete structures, design of cathodic protection systems, Pipeline Integrity Assessment for many Oil/Gas Pipeline Operators in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
Professor Cigna was graduated in Industrial Chemistry at Rome University in 1963 with 110/110. In the same University had the chair of "Corrosion and Protection of Materials" at the Engineering Faculty since 1966 and became full professor in 1980. In 1969 became Doctor for "Materials Technology and Applied Chemistry"
Dr. Cigna is currently the Chairman of the COST-521 Project "Corrosion of steel in reinforced concrete structures" which includes 15 European countries and managed by the European Union. He has many patents and he is the author of more then a hundred papers, all concerning the corrosion and protection of metals.
